The biggest pan-state ride - RAGBRAI

The grand-daddy of amateur American cycling events is going on this week in Iowa. RAGBRAI is an annual event of 10,000 riders from the west side (Missouri River) to the east side (Mississippi River) of Iowa. The route changes every year with an average course of 470 miles for the 7-day event. It's a non-competitive cycling event that draws riders from all over the world...including Lance Armstrong in 2007 & 2008 (he has a conflict this year).

When 10,000 cyclists ride into a town of 5 or 500 people, it's a big deal.

RAGBRAI has a 30+ year head start on the Pan Ohio Hope Ride. While we may not have 10,000 riders, we do have thousands of supporters. Our event surpassed the $180,000 mark today and we have 11 days until the start.

I've mapped out my last few training rides this week and will have the final tune up and bike packed by Thursday. We fly to Cleveland on Saturday. Getting psyched!

Safe riding,
Matthew
